Project seminar back to back with the International Air Congress “Atmosphere — 2012"

A seminar focused on

improving air quality in Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia and prospective implementation of the GAINS model in the Russian Federation was held back to back

with the International Air Congress “Atmosphere — 2012" in St Petersburg on April 17 2012.

It was the fourth annual seminar organised within the Russian-Swedish cooperation project "Development of the Co-operation within the Convention on Long-range Transboundary Air Pollution — CLRTAP". The session was attended by representatives from Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Sweden, Tajikistan, Ukraine, and Uzbekistan. Also, representatives from the European Commission, CLRTAP EGTEI, CITEPA and the Norwegian Meteorological Institute were attending the event.

The presentations covered perspectives on air pollution in France and Italy, project achievements in Russia and Belarus, emission inventories, GAINS, and health aspects of air pollution. In the discussions and conclusions from the meeting, the participants noted a large potential for international cooperation aimed at awareness raising and capacity building activities to improve and establish solid scientific support to decision makers in the field of air pollution.
